For over 1800 years, the ancient City of Amaravathi was centre of the Telugu empire. From Satavahanas, Ikshavakus, Eastern Chalukyas, Telugu Cholas, the Kota chiefs, Pallavas, Kakatiyas, the Reddy kings and the Vijayanagara empire, it served as the political and cultural capital in glorious splendor and significance.
Amaravathi was chosen by CBN to invoke pride in every Telugu and remind us of our glorious past.
The new Capital City zone is coming up at Thullur which is only 35 km from old Amaravathi. CBN chose the region because it is one of the few places where a river flows north instead of south or east, making it auspicious for the setting up of a Capital City where people will live in joy and abundance.
ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ రాష్ట్ర రాజధానికి 'అమరావతి' అన్నపేరును ఖరారు చేసింది ప్రభుత్వం. పలురకాల పేర్లు ప్రతిపాదనకు వచ్చినప్పటికీ చరిత్ర, సంస్కృతి, సంప్రదాయం ప్రతిబింబించేలా, అందరికీ ఆమోదయోగ్యంగా ఉండేలా 'అమరావతి' పేరును ఎంపిక చేశారు చంద్రబాబు.
అమరావతి అన్న పేరుతో ఒక పుణ్యక్షేత్రం, పంచారామాలలో ఒకటైన శైవక్షేత్రం రాజధాని ప్రాంతమైన తుళ్ళూరుకు సమీపంలోనే ఉంది. ఈ ప్రాంతం ఒకప్పుడు అంటే రెండువేల సంవత్సరాల క్రితం శాతవాహన రాజుల్లో ప్రసిద్ధుడైన గౌతమీపుత్ర శాతకర్ణి కాలంలో 'ధాన్యకటకం' అన్న పేరుతో ప్రసిద్ధి చెందింది. రెండవ, మూడవ శతాబ్ద కాలంలో ఇది శాతవాహనుల రాజధాని. గౌతమ బుద్ధుడు తన కాలచక్ర ప్రక్రియను అమరావతి లోనే బోధించాడు.
ప్రస్తుతానికి అమరావతి అనే ఈ పట్టణం, అమరావతి స్తూపం , పురావస్తు మ్యూజియం వంటి ఆకర్షణల కారణంగా ఒక చక్కని పర్యాటక ప్రదేశంగా ప్రసిద్ధికెక్కింది. ఇప్పుడు రాజధాని పేరును కూడా అమరావతి అని ఖరారు చేయడంతో, ప్రపంచంలో ఒక ప్రసిద్ధ బౌద్ధ క్షేత్రంగా ప్రసిద్ధి చెందే అవకాశం ఉంది.
The name “Amaravathi” has been proposed by our Hon'ble Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu Garu for the world class capital city of AP. Amaravathi in Sanskrit means “City of Gods or Immortal City”. This temple town (Amareshwara swamy temple – one of the pancharamas) in the southern region along with Dharanikota was once the Power seat in the rule of Satavahanas during the 2nd and 3rd century BC. Since then it continued as the capital of many following Andhra dynasties. This ultra modern capital city sprawling over 33,000 acres will have Important buildings like Assembly, Secretariat, Raj Bhavan etc.
This name from the great past of Telugu people will be paving the way for future. It invokes the Telugu pride reflecting the glory of Andhra and bringing back the ancient identity to the heritage site and merging a sense of belonging to the future generations.
